In 1931 Beulah Peterson Walker and her husband settled a 640‑acre homestead here. After erecting a water well under difficult conditions\, they christened their windy crossroads “Home on the Range.” When the highway arrived in 1941\, Beulah added gas pumps\, and her home‑cooked meals ensured that it became the only dependable stop between Rawlins and Lander. She later took over postal duties when the nearby Split Rock post office closed in 1943. \nOver the decades the site grew into a true high‑desert landmark with cabins\, towing services and a small store selling auto supplies\, rock specimens and Green Mountain‑chilled Cokes. The uranium boom of the 1950s brought busloads of miners through Jeffrey City\, and Home on the Range became a full‑service stage stop and community gathering place. Today\, South Pass Chapter #1867 marks this enduring bit of Wyoming history with a proper E Clampus Vitus plaque. \nEvent Details:\nWhen: June 5–7\, 2026 (6031) — Plaque dedication Saturday\, June 6 (6031). Early camping opens Thursday Evening.\nWhere: Home on the Range Stage Stop — 42.49382° N\, -107.82384° W — Highway 287 in Jeffrey City\, Wyoming. \nDirections: From Muddy Gap\, travel west on US‑287 for about 25 miles to Jeffrey City. Turn north on Ore Rd\, look for the usual red flags. In a half mile\, you’ll turn left onto St Andrews and follow the signs to the clampsite. From Lander do the same after you get to Jeffrey City. GPS: 42.50657\, −107.82803. \nGrand Council rules apply: No guns\, dogs\, long knives\, bad attitudes or women. Violators will be escorted from the premises.
